BIPOC DIRECTOR SHADOWING

Calling all emerging BIPOC directors who are looking to gain more experience on set.

Program Overview
        Program Description
The BIPOC Director Shadowing program facilitates mentorship opportunities for aspiring, emerging directors in the GTA to observe an established director’s set for a day.

In Cycle 1 we are able to fund 5 of these shadowing opportunities over Fall 2021 - Winter 2022. When an opportunity arises for a Cycle 1 Director to bring a mentee on set, a pairing will be facilitated based on fit, interest, and availability. Applications for mentees open Friday Oct 1, 2021 and close Friday, Oct 22 2021 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Applying does not guarantee a mentorship pairing. Timing of each shadowing opportunity is to be determined, dependent on the Cycle 1 Directors’ availability and capacity to take on a mentee over Fall/Winter 2021-2022.

The deadline to submit your application is Friday, Oct 22 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Late applications will not be accepted.

Why does it matter?

For us our first few experiences being on set was where we learned the most. It gave us the opportunity to talk to someone like us who was doing what we dreamed of. By being on set we demystified the realities of sets and thus gave us the confidence to further pursue the craft. We wanted to create this program as a safe space for young creatives like yourselves to support each other and learn from other BIPOC artists.

How it works

Apply: start by filling out this form.

Green-lit Project: A project from one of the directors in our network gets green-lit. The director (mentor) contacts Ecru.

Get Matched: We will review applications and pair you (mentee) up with an experienced professional director from our network based on your areas of interest (narrative, music video, commercial, etc).

Onboarding: Once we find our match we will connect the two parties (mentor & mentee) and provide necessary onboarding documentation.

Shoot Day: Mentee shows up on set to learn and gain more set experience.

Feedback: Feedback is important for us, Ecru will contact you for feedback. Let us know how your shadowing experience was. What did you learn? What did you miss? Was the experience helpful?
