The Banco Central burglary at Fortaleza was the theft of about R$160 million from the vault of the Banco Central branch located in Fortaleza, in the state of Ceará, Brazil. In the aftermath of the burglary, of the 25 people thought to be involved, just eight had been arrested, and $20 million recovered, up to the end of 2005.

The Brink's-Mat robbery occurred early on November 26, 1983 when six robbers broke into the Brink's-Mat warehouse. Once inside, they poured petrol over staff and threatened them with a lit match if they did not reveal the combination numbers of the vault. The robbers stole £26 million worth of gold, diamonds, and cash.

The Securitas Depot robbery was the largest cash robbery in British history. It took place on the evening of February 21, 2006 until the early hours of February 22, 2006. Several men abducted and threatened the family of the manager, tied up fourteen staff members and stole £53,116,760 in bank notes from a Securitas Cash Management Ltd depot in Vale Road, Tonbridge, Kent.

The 2009 Bank of Ireland robbery was a large robbery of cash from the College Green cash centre of the Bank of Ireland in Dublin, Ireland, on February 27, 2009. Criminals engaged in the tiger kidnapping of a junior bank employee and forced him to remove €7.6 million in cash from the bank as his girlfriend and two others were held hostage.

Nice, France

On July 16, 1976, during the long weekend of Bastille Day, a gang broke into the Société Générale bank’s vault in Nice. They opened 400 safe deposit boxes and stole an estimated 30-100 million francs worth of money, securities and valuables. They left a message on the walls of the vault: sans armes, ni haine, ni violence ("without weapons, hatred, or violence").

($4.5 million)

In 2006, at the Millar Ganj branch of Punjab National Bank, Ludhiana, 12 to 15 Sikhs dressed as policemen armed with submachine guns and rifles escaped with nearly $4.5 million in the biggest bank robbery in Indian history. No one was injured. A Police spokesman described it as "a neat and clean operation".

Stolen: $30 million

The United California Bank burglary took place on March 24, 1972, when the safe deposit vault at United California Bank in Laguna Niguel, California, was broken into and $30 million in cash and valuables were looted by professional burglars. The gang gained entry to the vault by using dynamite to blast a hole in its reinforced concrete roof.

The Dunbar Armored robbery took place on the night of September 12, 1997. Robbers rushed the vault guards and managed to subdue them before they could signal any alarms. They knew exactly which bags contained the highest denominations and non-sequential bills. They also knew where the recording devices for the security cameras were located and took them.

The Northern Bank robbery was a robbery of cash from the headquarters of Northern Bank in Belfast, Northern Ireland. On December 20, 2004, a gang seized the equivalent of £26.5 million in pounds sterling. Although one person has been convicted of money laundering, the investigation is still ongoing, and the case remains unsolved.

The Knightsbridge robbery took place on July 12, 1987 in Cheval Place, Knightsbridge, England. Two men entered the Knightsbridge Safe Deposit Centre, drew handguns and subdued the manager and security guards. They broke open many of the safe deposit boxes and left with a hoard estimated to be worth £60 million.

Bank of France Robbery

In 1992, robbers went to a bank guard's home, took him and his family hostage and lashed sticks of dynamite to the guard to ensure his compliance. Then the robbers drove the guard to the Bank of France just as it was closing and kept the 15 employees from leaving while they emptied out safes.
